"Last year I attended the ALC course and this was a great way to test competency within the field of lactation, seeing mothers with tricky situations and problems that needed in depth questioning, rationalizing and plan of care actions. This is the first time I was given the opportunity to use my skills in a settling that tested my competency as an IBCLC. I feel like this was a great way to test the skill set of a lactation counselor. It was different that the usual sitting through a lecture for CERPS, it put you in the drivers seat. Lecture type competencies are good for keeping abreast on new research and continuing education, but they do not let you use your skill set to help a client in need."
